Regulatory Requirements

Documents Required for Fire Protection Work Acceptance

· 4 min

Required as-built documentation and common reasons for comments from technical supervisors and regulators.

Work is not considered complete when the coating has been applied, but when the full documentation package has been signed off. Records must be compiled as work progresses: reconstructing site logs and concealed-work inspection certificates retrospectively is virtually impossible.

Core documentation package

  • Calculation of required coating thickness by structural group
  • Certificates of conformity and test reports for materials used
  • Batch certificates and delivery documents
  • Fire-protection work log
  • Inspection certificates for concealed work (surface preparation and priming)
  • Dry-film thickness inspection reports referenced to gridlines and elevations
  • Certificate of completion for fire-protection work in the prescribed form

Why do inspectors raise comments?

Most often, this is due to discrepancies between the calculations, the material actually applied and coating-thickness measurements. Another common issue is the failure to link measurements to specific structural members, making it impossible to reconcile the inspection report with the design.
